Make One Person Happy Today

June 26, 2015 Sue Hardek

Sometimes in the daily grind of our lives our vision becomes myopic.  We get caught up in the drama or challenges in our own lives and start thinking too much, which leads to worry and stress. This can cause a tailspin.  If you have been caught in a pattern of worry and stress, lift your head and look around.  Ask yourself, "Who can I make happy today?"  It can be a simple gesture like thanking a team for their hard work this week.  Call your Mom and tell her that you love her (Moms can never get enough of that, myself included!).  Smile and say hello to a stranger on the street.  Keep it simple, but try it.  Amazingly, you will feel a little better about yourself.

Challenge yourself to make two happy if you like.  I continually tell my 5-year old son, "Good out, good in," when it comes to dealing with his peers.  You get back what you put out into the Universe.  So, today put some good out there.  If you smile, you will probably get a smile back. If you say, "I love you, Mom," odds are she will say it back to you. Be careful, you could cause a tidal wave of goodwill back at yourself.  People say that some people are just plain lucky, but I don't buy it.  You create your own luck, by creating goodwill.

Check out this video.  Pharrell Williams put out the now overplayed song "Happy" and it created a landslide of goodwill around the world. What he got back was so much more!  Thank you for taking a few minutes to read this blog today.  I really appreciate it!

Life Lessons From Dad

June 19, 2015 Sue Hardek

I'd like to wish all of you dads out there a Happy Father's Day.  Going into the weekend, I will share some of the life lessons that my Dad taught me and hope that you take a moment to reflect on the life lessons your Dad taught you as well.

1.  Educate yourself.  Read, go to college, and learn as much as you can.  Knowledge is power.

2.  Grip it and rip it (said normally during a round of golf when I am overthinking every shot). Don't overthink things, you will get "Analysis Paralysis".  Just put your head down and do it.  If you miss, you miss.

3.  You get what you pay for.  Cheap isn't always the best price.  Do the research and make wise spending decisions.  Care for things you buy.  Shine your shoes, get your oil changed, and hang your clothes up at the end of the day.  A good quality purchase will last a lifetime.

4.   Practice makes perfect.  There are no short-cuts to excellence.  Do the work.  It's about the process, not the end result.  Winning isn't everything, but what you learn along the way.

5.  Pick your head up.  Life will knock you down, you will fail.  It's how you recover, how you move forward that counts.

6.  Show up for those you love.  He never said this, he just did it.  Always on the sidelines, always there.  Sometimes, just knowing that is all that matters.

7.  Do the right thing.  If there is one lesson in life that I appreciate the most, it's this one.  Not that I have been perfect, but when stuck in a life dilemma, I let this one guide me.

Thanks, Daddy-O.  I couldn't do what I do without the life lessons you taught me and your continued love and support.  Happy Father's Day!
